BLEWIT is a brand-new male pleasure product that’s not only designed to provide personal satisfaction, but also to deliver performance and pleasure training as well as combat performance anxiety. To learn about how BLEWIT came to be, I recently had the chance to chat with the founder and CEO, Chris Schenk.
C.J. Asher – Thanks for taking the time to talk to me about BLEWIT. First, tell me a little about yourself and your background.
Chris Schenk – I’m thirty-two years old and originally from California, but have been living in Texas the last eleven years. I am the founder and CEO of BLEWIT and an advocate for all forms of healthy sexuality. I have ten years of experience in the adult industry, served as Director of Operations of Fleshlight and then CEO of Aneros, where I developed a passion for promoting open communication about sexual health and pleasure. During my time at Aneros, I received the first ever Chief Executive of the Year award from XBIZ for my efforts to make the brand a leader in the field of sexual wellness. I am committed to confronting sexual shame and stigmas, while also creating progressive pleasure products and honest conversations that improve sex lives everywhere.
C.J. Asher – How was the concept of BLEWIT first developed?
Chris Schenk – I’ve taken all of my industry experience and the feedback that I’ve heard over the years and used it to create something innovative. BLEWIT is not just a great pleasure product, but also a performance training product designed to help men improve their sexual health and address some of the common issues that many men experience in the bedroom but are often ashamed to talk about.
C.J. Asher – What makes BLEWIT different from other personal masturbation products for men on the market?
Chris Schenk – There are several features that make BLEWIT unique. The ergonomic design and rubberized grip make BLEWIT comfortable to hold and won’t slip out of your hands, even in the shower. We want to challenge the stigma and harmful stereotypes that surround this issue, and encourage men, and couples, to address the problem in a healthier way.
C.J. Asher – You describe your product as a “performance training” product; tell me about that and how your product enhances male sexual performance.
Chris Schenk – Studies have shown that masturbation habits can play a role in sexual dysfunction, and some sexual health professionals incorporate forms of masturbation retraining in their treatment of these problems. In other words, it can be helpful to your sexual performance if you masturbate in ways that feel more like the sexual activities that you engage in with partners, and BLEWIT was designed to mimic those sensations in a way that your hand obviously can’t. In general, we advocate a mindful approach to masturbation that is less about reaching the end goal as quickly as possible and more about actually connecting with your body, which can help to alleviate performance anxieties and improve your sexual health.
C.J. Asher – The design of your masturbator is certainly unique! What determined the final design of the product?
Chris Schenk – We spent a long time working on the design. Obviously we wanted BLEWIT to look good, feel good and serve the sexual health purposes that we’ve already mentioned. In addition to that, we wanted our product to be approachable and inclusive. At first glance you might not even realize that it’s a masturbator; we’ve heard everything from Bluetooth speaker to shampoo bottle, so it’s more discreet but maybe also a little easier to leave it out in your bedroom or worry less about keeping it hidden. Using pleasure products isn’t something to be ashamed of or that we think anyone should have to hide from their partners. We also chose a non-anatomical design for the broadest possible appeal our product is for people with penises, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We also designed BLEWIT to be as accessible as possible and easy to grip whether your hands are smaller or larger, weaker or stronger, and left or right handed.
C.J. Asher – So far your Indiegogo campaign has raised over $59,000, well over its initial goal of $20,000. What made you decide to go the crowdfunding route as opposed to a more traditional business loan or investment options?
Chris Schenk – Obviously we want to bring people a great product, but we also want to spark an open, honest, and shame-free conversation about masturbation and sexual performance. We believe that open communication can enhance everyone’s sexual health and relationships. A crowdfunding campaign seemed like a natural fit with our philosophy since it allows us to share our message more directly with consumers and gives them an opportunity to share support and feedback. To us, the success of the campaign shows that our message is resonating and we’re thrilled to have so many people on board.
C.J. Asher – When will BLEWIT be available and how can interested men purchase it?
C.J. Asher – What are the primary motivators for men to purchase and use personal pleasure products?
Chris Schenk – Obviously pleasure is at the top of list, but using pleasure products can also be a way of exploring and learning more about your body and your sexuality, improving your sexual and overall health, and enhancing intimacy (and fun!) in relationships.
C.J. Asher – What types of lubes are recommended for use with BLEWIT?
Chris Schenk – We developed an all-natural, water-based lube called LUBEIT!, which we recommend for the best experience, but any water-based lube will work well.
C.J. Asher – What other companies are you aligned with in the adult pleasure product market?
Chris Schenk – We’re aligned with multiple distributors and retailers worldwide, and we have some other collaborations in the works. We’re excited to partner with people who share our commitment to sexual health.
C.J. Asher – It was great seeing a large variety of products designed for men at this year’s ANME event. What feedback have you received from men who have used BLEWIT?
Chris Schenk – The feedback we have received from b2b customers, reviewers, and consumers has been overwhelmingly positive. One of the most rewarding things for us is the enthusiastic response that reviewers are having to the unique aspects of the design that we put so much time into developing, like the grip and the suction control. We couldn’t have asked for a better reception than the one we’ve gotten so far, and we’re really thankful and looking forward to the future.
C.J. Asher – What other products can we expect from your company in the near future?
Chris Schenk – Right now we’re really focused on this launch, but we do have some other exciting things in the works. The positive response to this campaign definitely has the whole team even more motivated to keep going.
