Dear BroBible Representatives,
I’m C.J. Asher, a sex and adult entertainment blogger based out of Philadelphia, PA. I’ve been a long-time follower of BroBible on social media and have, for the most part, enjoyed many of the articles you’ve published, even the not-so-flattering one you published regarding my video asking adult film stars what superhero power they’d like to have. Much like many of the “bros” that you often refer to, I enjoy seeing pictures and videos of attractive women, visiting gentlemen’s clubs (of which I’ve reviewed several dozen), beer, sports and many other typical “bro” things.
Recently, however, I was appalled and disgusted by your article about trucker hats that are currently available for sale through Amazon.com. and how they’re “so good you won’t even need pickup lines when talking to ladies” and how “these trucker hats are going to open doors for you that you never even imagined might exist.” Okay, so the “I Pee in Pools” hat is just stupid and the “Jam Out With Your Clam Out” hat is, in my humble “bro” opinion, rather tacky and tasteless, but the one I have an issue with is the “Black Out With Your Rack Out” hat.
When I first saw this post, I thought “surely, this has to be a joke, right? I mean, BroBible can’t be as ignorant and stupid as to promote the sale of a hat that advocated rape culture.” I mean, you couldn’t have forgotten about the recent release of Stanford University student RAPIST Brock Turner… you did, in fact, write five articles here and here and here and here and here. Neither could you have been as ignorant as to not hear the horrid details of how Turner’s unnamed victim was found unconscious behind a dumpster, similar to the “Black Out With Your Rack Out” message on the hats that you’re apparently promoting. Neither you can you be so blind as to the current statistics on sexual violence, where one in five female undergraduate students experience rape or sexual assault and where there are nearly 300,000 victims of rape and sexual assault in the United States annually.
Not only was I shocked to realize that the line I expected – where you say how horrible these hats are and how they should be banned for promoting rape culture – never actually came, but I was truly mortified when I realized that you weren’t just promoting rape culture, but you’re actually PROFITING FROM IT!
I mean, how do you explain this line at the bottom of your article: The BroBible team writes about gear that we think you want. Occasionally, we write about items that are a part of one of our affiliate partnerships and we may get a percentage of the revenue from sales.
What self-respecting “bro” would want to buy a hat that advocates a woman getting so drunk that she blacks out with her breasts exposed? Even worse, why would you want to link to the Amazon.com page – flaunting how readers can purchase these rape culture-promoting hats in MULTIPLE COLORS – so that you can indirectly profit from the sale of these hats?
BroBible, if this was supposed to be funny it certainly wasn’t. I urge you to remove your promotion of these hats from your website, to issue an apology to the millions of victims of sexual violence across the United States and to take a positive stand towards promoting the respectful treatment of women. I also urge you to donate a portion of your profits to organizations that support victims of sexual violence, some of which can be found here.
Or, as you may say, your article is not a “bro move” at all.
