Whether you’re a gentlemen’s club or a pole dance fitness studio, keeping a clean facility is important to your long-term success. One of the most frustrating aspects of cleaning is cleaning the poles themselves, often a time-wasting and frustrating task for students, dancers or other staff. Cherie Devir has solved this problem with Polebuff, a dance pole cleaning system designed to save you time, hassle and money.
C.J. Asher – Thanks for taking the time to chat with us about Polebuff! Tell us a little about yourself…
Cherie Devir – Well, I’m forty-five years old and am originally from Lowell, Massachusetts but have lived in Carmel, Indiana for sixteen years. I am a wife and a mom of a fourteen and eleven year old. I also work full-time outside of the home and stay busy with kid’s hockey, soccer and wrestling activities. I started pole dancing in 2010 and was hooked.
C.J. Asher – Tell us about Polebuff, and how you came up with the concept.
Cherie Devir – Polebuff was initially conceived about three years ago out of some observations I made while teaching pole dance at a local studio. Until I had taught, I didn’t give much thought to the cleanliness of the poles that everyone was working on and sharing. While teaching I noticed that the poles were clean from the floor up to only about six feet. Beyond that, if you looked up the poles they were a complete mess with hand prints, grip aids, sweat, etc. I observed that after a class, students would only clean what they could easily reach and then be on their way leaving it for the instructor to clean for the next class. Also, during classes I noticed that fatigued students were getting even more fatigued – and frustrated – by having to climb simply to clean their poles so that they didn’t slip off. It’s even more tiring for advanced students practicing repetitive advanced combos/tricks. I just thought there HAD to be a way to clean the poles that would help with these issues.
C.J. Asher – How does using Polebuff differ from simply using soap and disinfectant products?
Cherie Devir – Polebuff has several unique advantages over the typical “climb and clean” method. First and foremost, climbing is no longer required for the average 5-foot person to clean a fourteen foot pole all the way to the top. Polebuff fully extends to seven and a half feet so the taller you are, the higher you can reach!
Also, it’s hygienic. Gyms require you to wipe down equipment completely after you sweat all over it, what’s different at the club or studio? Considering what body parts we put ON the pole, if you are climbing to the top of the pole with a towel and working your way down while you clean, guess what? You are STILL touching what the other person left behind AND it’s all over your legs and hands that you are just going to put back on the pole when you’re done. Not such a clean feeling.
Not having to climb ONLY to clean your pole during advanced combo training will save you energy and allow you to train longer. Polebuff does the grunt work for you.
Polebuff comes with two washable and reusable cloth covers that can be sprayed with your cleaner of choice. Extra cloths are sold in packs of two and most studios keep a dozen or so on hand to swap out often.
No climbing experience is needed. This means that anyone in your place of business can use Polebuff to help keep the poles clean.
No more dropping your cleaning towel from the top of the pole and having to retrieve it to start again…trust me, it happens.
C.J. Asher – What first made you decide to work in the adult novelty industry?
Cherie Devir – This particular industry is new for us. We will be attending the AVN in Las Vegas in January for the first time, so I’m very excited to see the response and if it’s something this market can use.
C.J. Asher – How has working in your industry impacted your personal and professional life? Do family and friends know what you do and are they supportive of it?
Cherie Devir – It’s been perfectly fine and accepted by those close to me. Both my parents have helped tremendously when we were designing the tool and my dad actually made the very first prototype. They also helped me out by driving my show gear out to Las Vegas from Indiana when I attended Pole Expo. My husband as well was very involved in the development process and all the technical and legal things that I didn’t enjoy focusing on. I think since they know I pole dance for fitness that this was just an extension of that. I don’t really tell my kids about the “adult” shows I attend, but my family is very supportive of anything Polebuff related.
C.J. Asher – Who is your typical client base, just gentlemen’s clubs and pole dance clubs?
Cherie Devir – Until June of this year, we were mainly focusing on pole dance studios and events that surrounded the Pole Fitness side of the industry. Our first venture into the “adult” world was at the Gentlemen’s Club Expo in June in New Orleans. It was greatly received and probably the most successful show yet.
C.J. Asher – Where can customers go to purchase your products?
Cherie Devir – Polebuff is sold exclusively at www.polebuff.com. We also sell a cute eight inch Retro Cloth Ice Bag that has pole dancer silhouettes imprinted on it. Just a fun little pole-themed item and way for dancers to ice down their aches and bruises.
C.J. Asher – What sets your company apart from other companies in the adult novelty industry?
Cherie Devir – Well, we don’t sell adult novelties so we aren’t competing with anyone in that area. However, Polebuff is literally the first and only of its kind in the world. We are pretty proud to be able to say that. We don’t have any competition for this product.
C.J. Asher – What are your favorite industry-related events?
Cherie Devir – Since launch last year, we’ve attended several different shows:
– The International Pole Convention in New Orleans
– The Midwest Pole Competition in Illinois
– Pole Expo in Las Vegas
– US Pole Sports Federation Championship in Jacksonville, FL
– The Gentlemen’s Club Expo in New Orleans
Our next show is the AVN in Las Vegas in January and we’re very excited!
C.J. Asher – Tell us some of the compliments you’ve received from your customers.
Cherie Devir – We have some awesome customers and reviews. Our reviews can be found on both our website and Facebook pages (links below). Studio and club owners, instructors and students say it saves them time and energy during and after their workouts, it’s easy to use and they love it.
C.J. Asher – What nominations and awards have you received?
Cherie Devir – We received the official U.S. Patent for Polebuff in June of this year, so that’s a pretty cool thing to have accomplished.
C.J. Asher – What social media sites can your customers follow you at?
