TheSexpose.com features adult entertainment news, reviews, rants and much more. I recently chatted with founder and editor Chris Hall about his site and experiences covering the adult entertainment industry.
C.J. Asher – First of all, thank you for this interview! Tell us a little about yourself, Chris.
Chris Hall – I am twenty-eight years old and I’m from the uh…bit too red state of Texas. I’m Finance major. Currently a freelance web developer. I have been involved in the adult industry for six years, first as a web designer, then for the past couple of years as a site owner.
C.J. Asher – How did you make the transition from traditional, “mainstream” work into the adult entertainment industry?
Chris Hall – My start really began when Kari Anthony, better known as Platinum Puzzy, hired me to help her with her websites. It sorted started from there. Granted, I still do mainstream work and honestly, I’m primarily mainstream.
C.J. Asher – Tell us a little about the history of Sexposé, from when it was founded until now.
Chris Hall – I started The Sexposé as VenomX Media. Initially I wanted to do a pay site that was a cross between Netflix and YouTube shows. Unfortunately, it did not pan out, so I rebranded into Sexposé at the end of 2015. The Sexposé is really meant to be an adult blog, but I plan on shifting towards being an adult online magazine similar to Texas Monthly online thanks to my mainstream business blowing up and time not being my best friend.
C.J. Asher – How do you select the adult stars and interviews that appear on your site?
Chris Hall – I usually go through the wonderful PR companies that send me press releases, such as The Rub PR and Star Factory PR. I am looking to work with more PR companies, however.
C.J. Asher – How does your work in adult differ from more “mainstream” web development work?
Chris Hall – Mainstream is far easier. (laughs) I’m a bit of a visionary when it comes to the adult business. I try to avoid going down the same path that everyone else has. So, it’s a bit of a steeper climb for me.
C.J. Asher – What are the new, big trends in adult content that you’re seeing these days?
Chris Hall – Increased sophistication in the amateur and independent circuit, for one. For two, the consolidation of content into larger and larger site networks. But there’s an over-saturation of content and talent. I see things getting harder for independent and amateur models, especially when you consider Instagram models growing in popularity.
C.J. Asher – What advice would you give to someone who is interested in working in the adult entertainment industry?
Chris Hall – Listen to knowledgeable, respected people and don’t do anything you’re not comfortable with. If you feel like you are selling yourself out participating in this business, then this industry is absolutely not for you. Research and learn about what you’re getting into. Understand the consequences.
C.J. Asher – What are your favorite adult conventions and expos, such as AVN and EXXXOTICA, to attend?
Chris Hall – I don’t attend conventions, honestly. I rather be seen, but not seen, if you get what I mean.
C.J. Asher – What’s been your favorite article since Sexposé began, and why?
Chris Hall – A post that I made about the issues surrounding the vast infighting among the BBW scene.
C.J. Asher – Tell us your thoughts and position on legislation – such as Prop 60 – which infringe on sex worker rights and seek to harm the adult film industry.
Chris Hall – The Prop 60 threat served as the biggest wake-up call that this industry needed. If the industry is going to protect itself, it needs to organize politically and be effective at grassroots organization. It did and defeated a proposition despite being outspent (possibly illegally) by over $3 million in campaign funds by the AHF.
C.J. Asher – Who is your favorite adult star, either from their work in front of the camera or who you’ve worked with professionally?
Chris Hall – I try to avoid publicly naming favorites. I have someone that is a favorite, I call her my “porn wife,” and she knows who she is.
C.J. Asher – What new and upcoming websites and content can we expect from the Sexposé team in 2017 and beyond?
Chris Hall – The Sexposé will become more of an online magazine and news outlet. I want to pay models to create naked video blogs for the site as a way for fans to get to know them a little bit better. I’ve learned that fans are willing to pay for porn when they have some degree of a connection with the performer. I’m also developing four new pay sites that will feature serialized, seasonal content. One at a time, though. And those pay sites will mostly focus on the amateur and independent scene. Eventually, everything will be under the tent of SXPE Media, which I slowly started pushing in recent days. Albeit quietly.
C.J. Asher – What social media sites can our readers follow you and Sexposé at? Please provide links!
